Adjacent to parking area 1 of the national park, it welcomes patrons with the tantalizing aroma of local barbecue, a prelude to the memorable gastronomic adventure that awaits.
Upon entry, the ambiance transports guests to an era gone by, thanks to the meticulous brown wooden decor reminiscent of a classic mountain house. The setting is deliberately reflective of the previous century, meticulously maintained to exceed visitors’ expectations of authenticity. Amidst the soft melodies of Croatian music, the restaurant buzzes with the gentle hum of conversations, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and intimate.
It is worth noting that the traditional charm does not extend to all aspects of comfort; specifically, the wall seating is notably less accommodating.

The soul of Restaurant Lička Kuća lies in its exceptional service. The waitstaff, exemplified by an extraordinarily kind waiter encountered during my last visit, offers an unparalleled dining experience.
His proactive approach, from greeting guests at the door to offering insightful recommendations and explaining the menu, showcased a commitment to excellence. His recommendations were delivered with professionalism and a genuine smile and were spot on.
This level of service continued throughout the meal, with the waiter ensuring each guest’s satisfaction with their culinary choices, a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to guest experience.

Upon placing an order, guests are promptly served a complimentary starter, a testament to the establishment’s generous hospitality. This starter comprises homemade cream cheese accompanied by fresh bread, offering a delightful introduction to the meal. The cream cheese, noted for its distinctive sourness, was soft and spreadable, pairing perfectly with the bread’s freshness. This gesture of a free starter, unique within the region, distinguishes Restaurant Lička Kuća further, underscoring its commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience from the very beginning.
For main course I ordered the aptly named “Lika Bundle“, which stood as a highlight of the culinary offerings at Restaurant Lička Kuća. Designed as a more accessible alternative to the traditional Peka, which requires preordering due to its preparation at an open fire, the Lika Bundle caterd perfectly to individual diners without the need for advance notice. As recommended by my friendly attentive waiter, it served as an excellent choice for those unable to preorder the larger Peka dish.
The food itself was an exceptional stew of mutton, potato, carrots and bell peppers, interestingly served in a paper bag. And although this presentation was not only surprising at the first time but it also made eating this course a bit more difficult than usual, no doubt it served as a nice melting pot for all the wonderful flavors of the local cuisine. And for my great contentment, this was the first place during my stay where they actually understood how to use salt right.
My dining journey at Restaurant Lička Kuća culminated with a dessert that is quintessential to the region—Apple Strudel. A staple in the local culinary landscape, the apple strudel can indeed be found in almost any establishment across the area. However, the rendition served at Lička Kuća standed out as a testament to the art of perfect strudel making, incomparably better than the sad version that I was served yesterday at Plitvice Holiday Resort Restaurant. The strudel here was served with a delightful twist—while maintaining the crunchy exterior that is beloved by many, it was presented more like a roll.
