Guesthouse Rubčić is a modest accommodation option for visitors to the Plitvice Lakes region. It is situated right next to the main road, at the very beginning of the touristic area, making it easy to find while still being just a 15-minute drive from Entrance 1 of the national park.
Don’t expect luxury here, but if you’re looking for a remote location with an excellent view and modest prices, Guesthouse Rubčić might be the accommodation you’re seeking.

My Experience
Upon arrival, my host was very welcoming, and she spoke good English. I was initially surprised when she messaged me in Croatian through the Booking.com app, but using Google Translate, we understood each other with no problems.
They have 2 rooftop apartments with excellent views. I would say this view is one of the highlights of Guesthouse Rubčić, as it’s rare to find accommodation in the area where you have an open panorama of nature instead of houses. Both apartments are ideal for 2 but can accommodate up to 4 people each. Note that there are no separate rooms; these are studio apartments.
The apartment itself has everything: a fridge, a kitchen with utensils, a dining area, a bathroom with a shower, and a balcony with a splendid view. The kitchen is very small, not for large feasts but sufficient to prepare some breakfast.
The furnishing is quite basic; don’t expect luxury items. However, everything is functional, and the bed was very comfortable, which I think is a very important aspect of any accommodation. If budget is a concern or you’re simply looking for accommodation in the Plitvice region and not a luxury stay, Guesthouse Rubčić is an excellent choice.

A Quick Story About Hospitality
The day I arrived, I noticed that the internet was, at best, poor. I couldn’t even load YouTube’s homepage, let alone watch a video or upload photos, so I had to use my phone’s connection.
I was quite frustrated as I came here partly for work, so I decided that in my review, apart from really liking this apartment, I would mention the poor internet connection.
The next day, it miraculously worked like a charm. I thought maybe someone was gaming or otherwise using up the bandwidth, as I usually experience the same poor connection when my kids are playing Minecraft at home.
Then I received a message from the host apologizing for the general outages in the internet connection throughout the area, but letting me know that it should work now.
This, to me, was the epitome of hospitality. Not only making things work but also keeping your guests informed about everything, even if they don’t ask.
